Vincent Courtois will be touring the US with his trio for the Jack London Tour from June 22 to June 29, 2019. He will then remain in San Francisco for an artistic residency from July 1 to July 4, 2019 with with actor and producer Pierre Baux. Courtois' presence in San Francisco and general work on Jack London led to a special partnership between the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the Oakland Public Library, where he will perform with Baux on July 2, 2019.
The Trio composed by cellist Vincent Courtois and tenor saxophonists Daniel Erdmann and Robin Fincker is touring the United States between June 20 and June 29, 2019 for its Love of Life concerts inspired by the work of Jack London. The trio will perform in Boston (June 22), New York (June 23), Oakland (June 26/27), Portland (June 28) and Seattle (June 29).
2018 marked the seventh anniversary of the jazz trio led by Vincent Courtois who recently discovered the work of Oakland writer Jack London. In his words: "Reading this literature so noticeably full of images awakened in me a musical immediacy. Rarely did the setting matter so much in an literary work. The immensity of nature ("Love of Life", "Build a Fire"), the strenght of the ocean ("The Sea-Wolf", "Tales of the Fish Patrol") or even the complexity of the city ("Martin Eden", "South of Slot"), manage - in turns - to become fully-fledged characters in Jack London's short stories, chronicles or novels which inspired me so many melodies, rythms, and harmonies."
Oakland will be a key date for the Jack London Tour as the band will be live recording their tour album on the evenings of June 26 and June 27, 2019 in Oakland's mythical 25th Street recording studio. This initiative was organized by the French Embassy in San Francisco in partnerhsip with DoubleOone, and tickets are now available. Those two unique nights will be capped at 30 participants each.
While in Oakland and in the Bay Area, Courtois and his trio will literally walk in London's footsteps as they will visit the Jack London State Historic Park where the author lived and meet with London's great-granddaughter.
Still centered on Jack London's work, the second part of Courtois' stay in the US will be dedicated to his artistic residency at A Room With A View - the Cultural Services of the French Embassy's artistic residency in San Francisco - with actor and producer Pierre Baux.
Courtois and Baux will be working on an hybrid performance mixing music and readings from London's work. They will perform their reading concert in Oakland's Public Library on July 2nd, 2019 - an event which is open and free to all. Courtois will play his compositions inspired by London's work and Baux will be reading excerpts from London's Martin Eden.
