MUTEK, an international festival of digital creativity, will be returning to San Francisco for its second edition from May 2, 2019 to May 5, 2019. MUTEK originated in Montreal and will be celebrating its 20-year anniversary there!
The San Francisco branch of the festival focuses on electronic and experimental music that pushes the boundaries of genre and media with dynamic depth and energy. MUTEK San Francisco emphasizes its importance within the current political climate as a sort of act of resistance, in addition to its presence as a foundational element of the undercurrent of arts and culture.
The festival is split up into four categories of performances: Digi Lab, A/Visions, Nocturne, and Experience. Digi Lab is made up of panels for discussion and educational programming. A/Visions features immersive audio-visual works. Nocturne is a nighttime music programming which showcases live performances of electronic music. Experience will bring together multiple artists on various stages to create a day-into-night experience.
The first wave of artists has been announced, and though the majority of the artists are American, the festival will include French artists such as Freeka Tet – a digital experimental artist who works with various mediums such as prosthetics and coding – in addition to The Hacker’s presentation of Amato Live. Stay tuned for updates on the next wave of artists for the festival’s line up!
MUTEK.SF is supported by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States.
