The San Francisco-based writing residency “A Room with a View” is looking for French authors of fiction, comic strips, youth literature, poetry, or essays. “A Room with a View” was created in 2017 through a collaborative effort between the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States, the Consulate General of France in San Francisco and the French American Cultural Society in partnership with the Institut Français. This project also reflects a partnership with UC Berkeley, Stanford University, Portland State University, SF Chronicle, Green Apple Books, Litquake and the Bay Area Book Festival. It draws upon the San Francisco region’s historical ability to anticipate future societal shifts, and provides French writers a space within its cultural melting pot of change and innovation to discover what will happen “After Tomorrow.” This season of “After Tomorrow” encourages artists to explore their role in a society in upheaval.
This call for applications is for the two sessions of writing residency in the 2019 which occur in spring and autumn, and is open until December 3, 2018. Authors are required to be of French nationality or to have been of residence status for at least five years, and be able to fully immerse themselves in the residency during their stay. More information can be found on the French culture website by clicking here.
This writing residency is made possible thanks to the support of Institut Français, the French American Cultural Society, and Mélanie and Pete Flint.
